18 years. Peated malt cask expression. The 2024 edition of Hakushu’s peated malt single malt — Suntory’s mountain forest distillery at 18 years with the added dimension of peated cask influence.

Hakushu Distillery was established in 1973 in the Japanese Southern Alps at 700 meters elevation in dense forest. The mountain terroir produces a lighter, herbaceous, and gently smoky single malt distinctively different from Yamazaki’s valley richness. The Peated Malt expression uses casks seasoned with peated malt spirit, amplifying Hakushu’s natural gentle smokiness through cask influence rather than distillate peat.

The 2024 edition is the most recent Hakushu Peated Malt, following the 100th Anniversary edition and the standard 18 Year releases. Together with the 2024 edition, the Wooden Cork catalog includes the Hakushu 18 Year Peated Malt 100th Anniversary — the commemorative 2023 centenary expression.
